Here are the most Frequently Asked VEERUM questions and answers. If you don't see your question here, drop us a line on our Contact Us page or book a demo to see the application for yourself.
What is a digital twin?
Gartner defines a digital twin as a digital representation of a physical entity or system. VEERUM DigitalTWIN does this by connecting asset information to a 3D model of your asset, project, facility, site or module. We break it down for you in detail here.
How do I get started?
I have an old asset with no CAD model. Do I need a CAD model to implement your solution?
No, VEERUM DigitalTWIN provides visual context to your legacy assets with just a laser scan, and options to view your data in pointcloud for engineering use cases or 3D Tiles for use cases that demand more photorealistic imagery. It allows you to connect tags from an enterprise asset management system to a specific geolocation within a reality scan. Digitize existing facilities without a CAD model, enabling seamless data visuaization and contextualization. Learn more about VEERUM DigitalTWIN
What industries do you work in?
Construction, Mining, Utilities, Oil & Gas, Energy, Manufacturing, Agriculture, and Environmental.
What type of reality capture data can you ingest?

VEERUM can ingest all types of reality scan data including LiDAR scans, drone scans, photogrammetry, 3D Tiles, 360 photos, and more! It depends on what use cases you and your organization determine to drive the most value. In the example above, VEERUM’s client used a mobile mapping scanner to capture the facility. This scanning method can be used by anyone and does not require survey subject matter expertise. The entire facility was captured in less than 1 hour, and uploaded to the VEERUM application in under 48 hours.
What type of design data can you ingest?
VEERUM converts your 2D or 3D design files into a point cloud or Mesh format for simple viewing in our cloud-hosted application. Point clouds are used for more engineering use cases where precise measurements are most important. 3D Tiles are more photorealistic and can be used to read nameplates, enable remote inspections, or virtual site visits. Users can toggle between these two views if there are required use cases for both. VEERUM’s technology enables your team to load large design files on consumer-grade laptops over a simple internet connection.
Does VEERUM application integrate with existing enterprise resource planning (ERP) solutions like SAP?
Yes, VEERUM integrates with your existing ERP solutions to elevate your asset data to the entire organization with a single enterprise subscription. This enables you to elevate your existing data to the entire organization via a simple to use 3D visualization application with powerful analytic tools.
Is there any additional application, IT infrastructure, software, or hardware that I will need in order to incorporate VEERUM into my organization?
No, VEERUM is a fully cloud-hosted web application that only requires using a consumer-grade desktop, laptop or tablet and an internet connection.
My data is sensitive, what measures do you take with regards to data security?
Information integrity is preserved by aggregating data directly from source systems (e.g. via API) and ensuring that data cannot be edited nor manipulated in any way. VEERUM’s application actually helps expose and remediate information quality issues and gaps during the data aggregation phase. Information security is the most important pillar of VEERUM’s solution. Several technical security solutions and process related controls are in place to protect your data, such as 3rd party cyber security penetration tests, SOC 2 Type I and II compliance, and ISO 27001 compliance. Learn more about the measures we take to ensure your data is protected and secure from our Trust Centre.
Where is the data hosted?
The data is hosted in Amazon Web Services.
How is my data uploaded?
VEERUM makes it as easy to sync data between your existing data stores and VEERUM’s cloud hosted solution. Your organization can leverage configurable workflows that work with your existing data sources and digital investments. These workflows can grow with your digital transformation strategy as your team transitions from on-site to off-site operations.
Options include:
-
Drag and drop into a secure AWS S3 bucket or other 3rd party cloud provider (e.g. DropBox, Box, ShareFile, Azure, GCP, IBM Cloud)
-
Seamless transfer and integration with your own 3rd party cloud storage service
-
API: VEERUM can connect to any 3rd party API to integrate data between source systems and VEERUM
How do I link my data with VEERUM?
Use VEERUM’s deep linking solution called V-Link. Connect asset data to persistent geolocations in VEERUM's application.
Do you provide data capture services?
As a SaaS provider and digital transformation consultant, VEERUM does not provide data capture services. VEERUM specializes in integrating all existing visual and rich asset information in the context of a 3D viewer. If you don’t have any visual data sets to integrate, VEERUM has partnerships with industry leading data capture companies who can guide you through your data capture strategy that meets your use case requirements.
How often can I update my reality scan?
VEERUM can update your 3D models at any cadence your asset requires. We have uploaded daily drone flights for clients undergoing large capital construction projects, enabling daily digitally verified progress reports. These reports can identify schedule slip, confirm contractor completion reports, and diagnose bottlenecks before they impact reality.
What is a point cloud?
A point cloud is a set of data points in space. The points represent a 3D shape or object. Each point has its set of X, Y and Z coordinates. Point clouds are generally produced by 3D scanners or by photogrammetry software, which measure many points on the external surfaces of objects around them. This technology enables VEERUM to load large design files on consumer-grade laptops over a simple internet connection.
What are 3D Tiles?
3D Tiles have gained significant popularity in recent years as they provide a scalable, standardized format for streaming large 3D geospatial and design datasets. VEERUM currently supports textured mesh file formats including Context Capture, Agisoft Metashape, and RealityCapture 3D tiles.
What kind of onboarding and training support do you provide?
At VEERUM, we provide you with more than just access to our technology. A dedicated solution specialist provides your team with end-to-end support, including geospatial expertise, analysis, reporting, and more. There is comprehensive documentation and training guides for self-based learning, as well as ongoing technical support.
