Employee Spotlight: Amanda Nunn, Senior Solutions Specialist

Our employee spotlight is our latest blog series where we get up-close and personal with some amazing team members making a difference at VEERUM. We have always attributed the success and growth of our organization to the strength and diversity of our team. So, we’re excited to highlight a hardworking team member each month.

For this employee spotlight, I was lucky enough to sit down with one of VEERUM’s Senior Solutions Specialists, Amanda Nunn, to discuss the exciting projects she’s working on and the best advice she’s learned throughout her career. Meet Amanda: avid reader, data nerd, and lifelong learner.

1. What do you do at VEERUM?

I’m a Senior Solutions Specialist and I provide client support for all our products. Each of our clients has a dedicated solutions specialist who ensures all client needs are met, from providing geospatial expertise to processing and preparing data. Our team ensures our client’s data is high-quality, properly processed, and ready to be ingested into the VEERUM application. I often am coming up with different creative solutions and thinking outside the box to support our clients and their industry problems.

2. How did you get into technology?

I sort of fell into it, but it’s been a great experience. I have a bachelor's of science in cellular biology. I started working in the conservation and environmental field, but I ended up completely changing my focus from biology to geomatics. It all started for me when I was trying to visualize all of the data we were getting from research and field collection. From there, I spent years in the geomatics and environmental engineering world, also working in data visualization, and eventually made my way to VEERUM.

I had such great mentors and I learned so much from them throughout my career. If you have a willingness to learn and a positive attitude you will find success in unexpected places. Technology is constantly changing and there’s always new methods of gathering information and data, so I feel lucky to have continued to learn so much throughout my career.

3. What is an exciting project or initiative you’re working on right now?

Right now, I’m looking forward to working with the team on the Clean Resource Innovation Network (CRIN) project. VEERUM was selected for funding from CRIN for a clean energy technology project and will be working with oil and gas industry leaders and a selected VEERUM internal team to support our artificial intelligence and machine learning investment.

I’m excited to be a part of the project CRIN and leading the asset management side of things. We are focusing on developing new solutions with client’s existing databases that currently are not connected and integrated with the rest of their data. What I’m really looking forward to is working with our elite internal team, it will be a variety of different people coming together from different disciplines to truly build something amazing. There is something so special about everyone working together on the same project with different and unique skill sets. There is nothing more exciting than to be a part of new technology, new ideas, new people of all different backgrounds and watch the solution come to life.

4. What is the best career lesson or advice you’ve learned?

Very early on, I learned to never pretend you know something when you don’t and don’t be afraid to ask questions or you could miss out on an incredible opportunity to learn something new. What’s more, it’s ok to say you made a mistake and messed up. People will respect you more if you can own up to something and take responsibility. GIS is a team sport, so never forget to include and respect the team you work with.

5. What do you like to do for fun?

I love spending time with my daughter, showing her the world and all the cool things and places to see! I also love listening and learning about the different music scene from other places. I’m looking forward to the warmer weather this summer and spending time outside.
