Our employee spotlight is our latest blog series where we get up-close and personal with some amazing team members making a difference at VEERUM. We have always attributed the success and growth of our organization to the strength and diversity of our team. So, we’re excited to highlight a hardworking team member each month.
This week, I had the opportunity to chat with VEERUM’s Product Manager, Noor Amjad, to learn more about her love for problem solving, her career path, and some of the best advice she’s received from her mentors. Meet Noor: painter, foodie, and VEERUM product manager.
What is your role at VEERUM? What does your day-to-day look like?
As a VEERUM Product Manager, my role is to evaluate how our VEERUM product can be developed in a way that addresses the pain points of the client and brings about the intended value for them. No day is the same, but my day-to-day involves working cross-functionally with different teams such as the Technology and Solutions teams to understand the client and business needs. I work to prioritize new features and solutions while aligning them with our product roadmap and envision a successful path forward. I also work with stakeholders to study different personas and validate the findings through interviews and focus groups. This due diligence and effort helps effectively shape the VEERUM product as we grow it.
How did you get into product management?
After I graduated from university with a chemical engineering degree, I had the opportunity to work with different entrepreneurs and tech startups in Calgary. I also worked with data visualization software for a couple of years. With these opportunities, I thoroughly enjoyed problem-solving, testing new solutions, and working with users to help them drive the most value from their data. I decided to take it a step further and try out a Product Management role. VEERUM proved to be an amazing fit as I learn and continue to grow into this role.
What is the most exciting part about your job?
The most exciting part of my job is problem solving. It is amazing to work with multiple stakeholders and come up with a solution to help a client. What I find even more exciting is when a client provides feedback on how we supported them in their daily tasks and brought value to their company. Making a difference in the lives of our clients is incredibly rewarding.
Recently, I had the opportunity to a share a project VEERUM undertook with Imperial Oil, ReVisionz and AltaMLl that is aimed to result in astounding environmental, safety, and productivity improvements:
What are you passionate about?
I am very passionate about mentorship. It’s great to build a connection with someone to share ideas, ask for advice, and gain insight from. In the same way, I find it rewarding to mentor others and pass on the knowledge I’ve learned. I enjoy mentoring other individuals who share similar passions in the fields of academia, painting and writing. One of the best pieces of advice I received from a mentor during an internship was that it’s one thing to give or receive feedback and another thing to understand and implement it. This mentor taught me the importance of strategizing ways to improve based on feedback, and using it as an opportunity to grow.
What are you looking forward to in the coming year?
I am excited to see the product management team at VEERUM grow further as we bring in new talent and empower the VEERUM application.
